Understanding Your Oura Ring Readiness Score

Learn what the Oura Ring Readiness Score means, how it's calculated from nine contributors, and how to use it to guide your daily decisions.

The Readiness Score is one of the most useful metrics on your Oura Ring. It gives you a single number — from 0 to 100 — that reflects how prepared your body is for the day ahead. But what actually goes into that number?

What the Readiness Score Tells You

According to Oura, "Readiness is a holistic picture of your health, taking into account your recent activity, sleep patterns, and direct body signals (like resting heart rate, heart rate variability, and body temperature)."

In practical terms:

  • 85 or higher (Optimal) "may be a sign that you are ready to take on new challenges"
  • 70–84 (Good) means you've recovered well enough
  • Below 70 (Fair or Pay attention) suggests you "may benefit from prioritizing rest and recovery"

Some variation in your score is expected. Oura says it "shows you're challenging your body in healthy ways" (Oura).

The Nine Contributors

Your Readiness Score is built from nine contributors grouped into three categories:

Sleep

  • Sleep — compares your total sleep from the past 24 hours (including confirmed naps) against your baseline
  • Sleep Balance — looks at your sleep patterns over the past two weeks to identify any accumulated sleep debt
  • Sleep Regularity — measures how consistent your bedtime and wake-up times have been over the past two weeks

Activity

  • Previous Day Activity — evaluates your movement and inactive time from the day before against your long-term averages
  • Activity Balance — tracks how your activity levels over the past two weeks may be affecting recovery

Body Signals

  • Resting Heart Rate — compares your lowest nighttime heart rate against your personal long-term average
  • HRV Balance — compares your recent heart rate variability trend to your baseline
  • Body Temperature — flags readings that are significantly above or below your normal range
  • Recovery Index — measures how quickly your resting heart rate stabilizes during the night

Each of these contributors is based on your personal averages, so the score is tailored to you. It can take up to two weeks for the Oura App to learn your baseline values.

How to Use It Day-to-Day

The Readiness Score works best as a daily check-in. A quick glance in the morning can help you decide whether it's a good day for an intense workout or whether you'd benefit from something lighter.

This is exactly why having your Readiness Score on your home screen — via a widget — can be so useful. Instead of opening the Oura App every morning, you see it at a glance.

Ring Widget, an independent app, lets you add your Readiness Score (and other Oura metrics) to your iPhone Home Screen. The battery indicator and the Readiness and Sleep widgets are free; other layouts require a purchase. Ring Widget isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Oura Health Oy.
